3.8.2007 - Sohlberg had a major dissapointment

Rallying in WRC Finland for Kristian Sohlberg was ended before it even got barely started as he had an off due technical failure in second stage.

 

 

 

 

Rallying in WRC Finland for Kristian Sohlberg was ended before it even got barely started as he had an off due technical failure in second stage. Retirement was unvoidable due damage of the car suffered.

 

- My rally car simply just didn't want to turn in fast paced left corner about 500 metres before the finish line of the stage. I tried to fight and turn the car so that we could have void the off. However in that point my car didn't want to turn, told Sohlberg his moments. Red Mitsubishi was slided off the stage as he could not steer the car.

- We hit a very big rock which rolled us. Our speed was approx 80km/h when we hit the rock. It was just like hitting the wall, Sohlberg continued. Co-driver Pietiläinen suffered a broken bone. In the moment of crash co-driver Pietiläinen suffered a broken leg bone. Fortunately he was lucky to survive the insident without major damage.

 

- My leg is broken and it's now taped. Nothing serious, reported Pietiläinen in his 14th WRC Finland.
Pietiläinen does not remember much from the crash.

- I had this speedy feeling like now we're going to have an off and then we had this impact. According Sohlberg he had a good start of the second stage. 

 

- My car was working great as we kept pushing. In one corner our right side wheel hit a rock. It caused small damage to steering, reported Sohlberg. Sohlberg lost time in a spin.

 

- In left hand corner my right side wheels were dropped out from the road. Spectators were able to push us back in the stage. "Life nor rallying does not end at this point" Sohlberg cannot continue WRC Finland in Saturday with SuperRally rule due too heavy damage.

- Co-drivers side is in really bad condition. Also my thoughts are not in rallying at the moment. I feel very, very frustrated, reported Sohlberg. At the same time Sohlberg admit that after few nights the situation will be different. 

 

- Life nor rallying does not end at this point
